How to Design in the Agent Era
Narration: WOW Mentor
What WOW Mentor breaks down here is a single question: when agents do the actual work, what keeps a designer indispensable? Paper founder Steven Haney built a design tool on HTML and CSS so agents can read and write it directly, and on top of that he erased the very concept of handoff. But his real message is not the technology. Do not ship whatever the model spits out; strip away the AI tells — the bold, the too-many sizes, the purple gradients; and understand that taste and judgment remain a human job. That is exactly where WOW Mentor trains the lens.

The more agents handle chores like translation and resizing, the more the human's real job becomes judgment: deciding what to keep and what to cut.
Choosing HTML and CSS as the rendering engine is strategy, not aesthetics. Drawing in a language agents already know saves tokens, runs faster, and cuts hallucinations.
Building a shader library and a mono font instead of buying ads is the marketing budget itself — make something useful for the world, and it outperforms an ad.
The root problem with handoff is that the source of truth splits in two. Make the codebase the single source and there is no longer any reason for design and code to drift apart.
Models love bold, love too many font sizes, and often botch contrast. Pulling weights back, cutting to three sizes, and checking readability instantly makes work look more designed.
A large part of design is deleting. In a tool where removing an element snaps everything else into place, the effort to reach a thoughtful result collapses.
Agents keep getting better at tactics, but the human work — exploring the problem space, aligning stakeholders, making decisions inside an org — is not something they can replace.
Fans gathered around Paper before it had a product, drawn purely by its values. In design software, the most authentic product wins.
