How to Get Your First 10 Customers
Narration: WOW Mentor
What WOW Mentor's teardown reveals is a single stubborn fact: your first ten customers come from you, the founder, not from any tool. Before picking a channel, answer where your buyer spends their day; pull your first two or three from the warm network that already trusts you; physically get into the same room; and show up as a real person where the pain is aired in public. Outbound tools and automation only join once your message is proven, and outreach framed as advice or a genuine gift opens doors that a pitch cannot. In the end, the first ten belong not to a great salesperson but to the founder willing to do the unscalable work everyone else avoids.
Show notes
Before choosing a channel, sit down for an hour and answer where your buyer actually spends their day. Email and LinkedIn should never be the default just because they feel like work.
The first two or three customers come, almost without exception, from your warm network, because early buyers are betting on the founder they trust, not the product alone.
Physically getting into the same room outperforms almost everything else. It is slow, awkward, and you can be rejected to your face, yet it converts the best.
Micro events of six to ten people convert far better than large ones. Once someone has had dinner with you, they will not ignore your follow-up email.
Find where your future customers already complain in public, on Reddit, Facebook, or Discord, and show up as a real person. Reddit threads persist in Google and keep paying off.
Prospecting tools like Apollo, Clay, and email sequences only start to matter once you already have ten to twenty quality customers. Setting them up sooner skips the lowest-hanging fruit.
The highest-converting early outreach was framed as advice, mentorship, or a product review, not a sales pitch, but only works when you genuinely want to learn from the person.
Customers 1 to 3 come from your personal network, 4 to 10 from doing things that don't scale, and 10 to 50 is where tools finally fit. The messy middle works because the founder does it personally.
